New lawsuit against Diamond Ranch Academy

7/28/2017

We have learned that a lawsuit has been launced against Diamond Ranch Academy located east of Hurricane, Utah.

In the lawsuit the parents of a girl claim that the Diamond Ranch Academy was aware that a therapist at the Academy overstepped decent boundaries having warned him in the past before this girl suffered a terrible experience. A therapist named Troy Ammon Carter is also named in the lawsuit.

It is the 4th known incident at Diamond Ranch Academy which prompts concern.

  • In 2009 a boy died at the Academy while they were located on their old campus west of Hurricane.
  • In 2013 a boy committed suicide at the Academy
  • In 2015 a teacher was arrested due to illegal contents on his harddrive. He was employed at Diamond Ranch Academy when he was arrested.

These are all cases of concern. They illustrate urgent need of supervision from the state on a totally other level compared with how the supervision operates today. We urge the politicians weighing the safety of the children at the academy higher than local jobs.

Liahona Academy is used as weapon in custody battles

12/29/2015

Near Virgin in Utah a boot camp styled facility named Liahona Academy is located. According to photos the boy’s heads are shaved. It is modeled as a place for punishment and nothing good can emerge from a stay in this program. In the public the facility is only known because a boy died there in 2010. A boy who might been able to live the last few of his months hanging out with his friends and partying but was robbed of this opportunity due to his placement at Liahona Academy. Based on interviews of his friends we learned of a young man with appetite on life. Sad to imagine that he wasn’t allowed to live what was left of his life in freedom among his friends.

Years of research has proven that the worst thing you can do with an issue is to confront it. Instead nursing, coaching and encouragement based on respect of the social heritage will contribute to a balanced motivation for life. There is no such thing as underachievement. Children become what they are born to become based on the experiences of both birthparents.

When one parent is withheld from the child the child is not getting all the stimulus the child needs to be a complete human being. Even the most poorly educated therapist will know that. It doesn’t matter if this parent is in agreement with the treatment plan or not. Whatever progress achieved in the program will be destroyed once the child reemerge in the society again because the day comes where the child turns 18 and doesn’t have to respect any visitation plan or any custodial agreement made in court.

In a case we got notice of therapist Brian Parker who had aided a father in hiding his son at Liahona Academy out of reach from his mother. Of course the mother hope that her son somehow would escape the prison Liahona is designed as with it walls all around the facility located in a deserted area but because it is designed as a prison it was not possible. More than a year the mother didn’t have any communication with her son. In Utah custodial agreements in other states are not respected.

Because this therapist seems to have broken one of the elementary rules in this case we can only urge people to refrain from obtaining his services. We have asked some of the organizations we work with to investigate Liahona Academy.

We are not saying that Liahona Academy killed the boy we mentioned in the start but as a parent think about that you never know when life - your own or your childs - is over. Be with them as much as possible.

We have been busy but

11/6/2014

We have been busy doing some legislation work in Sweden and have failed to maintain our blog but a recent attack on the Freedom of Speech have made us do this post.

We have learned that a therapeutic Boarding School in Hurricane, Utah has started to sue every former student and website owner who have aided the former students giving the world their version of what they have experienced.

To have been forced through a terrible period of your life is one thing. Not being allowed to tell people about your torment makes it only worse.

Look this Boarding School lost two of its students while they were forced to live there. One died from a mysterious illness. The exact cause was never found. The other one died in the showers because something got around his neck. Accident, attack  or self-inflicted? We don't know. The records were kept a secret.

We feel that former students should have the right to tell what they have experienced. We believe in the Freedom of Speech. We can only condemn Diamond Ranch Academy for their attack on former students and website owners.

We urge everyone to speak out against them. Freedom of speech is also a right for former students and anyone who helps them.

Possible abuse at Lundsberg

8/26/2013

Reports of possible abuse have reached us. The Lundsberg elite boarding school became noticed in the media because a boy was rushed to the hospital with severe burns after an introduction event at the school.

The school – founded in 1896 – has a number of prominent students among its alumnis. Members of the royal family have been students there as well as a number of diplomats and politicians.

Former students speak of the use of corporal punishment among the students. It seems that the students are required to keep a kind of informal standard where older students put younger students into place if they act out.

  • Among the incidents are nightly raids in the dorms conducted by senior students, so newcomers were beaten.
  • Newcomers were forced to have a broom-stick with a condom put up in private parts.
  • Rule breakers were required to receive electrical shocks with an electric fly swatter on more sensitive parts of their body.
  • Newcomers were spoken of in degrading language like slaves.
It is a degree of bullying which the official Sweden would disapprove of. In fact Sweden was among the first school to create a strategy against bullying in public schools. It is odd and very shocking that department of education in Sweden has not shut the school down.

They need to do that to show that they take bullying seriously. Nothing would do it.

Denmark mix ill and criminal youth

8/5/2012

It is with great concern that we have learned that Denmark has started to mix
minors who commit crimes with minor who just happen to suffer from mental
illnesses.

In the case of Amalia Pape an odd and dangerous pattern can be seen. The now
16 year old girl was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. Normally ODD is not a
recognized illness. Most professionals deem this particular diagnose as a kind
of mess meant to put a name on normal teenage behavior.

The girl was living at a group home placed there with the approval by her
family when she was 12 years old. For no particular reason the authorities
suddenly send her home and claimed she was cured. However at it turned out, she
was not. Her family asked for help and the only option the authorities had was
not her old group home but instead a department of "Grenen", which is a maximum
security youth facility in Jutland.

Here the girl would live much like the other youth placed at the facility for
a number of reasons like armed robbery or street gang participation. It doesn't
sound like the right option for treatment of her illness.

But this was the only option the authorities could offer and when her family
denied participating in her placement, the authorities took her by force.

So Amalia Pape is now living in a criminal environment. Her contact with her
family is restricted very much like she was imprisoned. It is a sad turn-out for
a girl and a family reaching out for help. It is an embarrassment for
Denmark.

Petition: Save Victoria from Diamond Ranch Academy

5/28/2012

A girl is sent to a Utah boarding school by court order which was manipulated by her father.

The girl and her mother have been living peacefully for some time when her father (Long time out of the picture) wanted to be a part of her life.

She didn't want that due to court intervention she is being banished to the desert each of Hurricane to some kind of boarding school named Diamond Ranch Academy.

There are many negative stories about this particular school on the internet. Due to some legal circumstances the boarding school was forced to move from Idaho after an intervention by the social services.

We will ask you to sign a petition against her banishment. Hopefully the media interest will result in her being returned before she is too damaged by the harsh treatment at the school. A school where a boy died in 2009.

Close to child abuse

12/16/2011

The Swedish newspaper Expressen published on March 4, 2011 an article where the reward / punishment system on the so-called HVB-group homes are explained (HVB = hem för vård och boende).

It seems that one of the rewards is the ability to see their parents. Even days with illness are deducted from the reward system.

It is an unfair system. Love and comfort can not be put in a schedule based on rewards and punishments. Love and comfort are unlimited.

This system should be revised. It is close to neglect against children already suffering from being forced to live outside their homes. It is not far from being child abuse.

Cheap labor - reality for children in foster care in Sweden

11/23/2011

A report ordered by the town of Eskilstuna did show that many of the children placed in the custody of the state between 1983 and 1986 ended up being used as cheap labor instead of getting better care.

We might ask why the state did not ensure that they didn't end up living under so poor condition that the removal from their birth parents did not improve their living standards.

We also might ask if the authorities are wondering whether is time to start monitoring the conditions in the foster families.

All these questions and we do know that we will not get an answer to them because children placed in foster care are troubled youth which you do best in forgetting once they have been placed at families living far out in the forests.

It is about the money (Story from Sweden)

10/9/2011

A minority of foster families in a lot of money do it because they want to help children in need, but for most it is a way to finance their lives.

When the authorities then lower the income of the foster families for one reason or another, they simply choose to stop working as foster parents robbing the foster child the only safe home they might have known.

One of these children was Niklas which at the time where the article was written was only 10 years old. A divorce between the foster parents resulted in him being send to the school one day with the message that he shouldn't expect to return and that was it.

All his life has he been living at this foster family and suddenly he only had the clothes he wore and his schoolbooks. We cannot even start to imagine how he felt that day about where he should go once the school ended.

Does it sound like a foster care system which works? No exactly!
